Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. September 16, 2018 marks an important day in the history of Vanni Rehabilitation Organization for the Differently-able (VAROD), Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. It also becomes an important day for the northern province of Sri Lanka where VAROD ministry is located.
For the first time in history a provincial-level song competition for persons with disabilities (PWDs) was organized by VAROD together with Jaffna Kuperaha Arts Club. After several selection rounds in which a large number of PWDs took part, the 13 of them selected for the finals sang at the “Super Singer PWD – 2018” event that took place in the Cultural Center in Vavuniya town. Fr. Rex Constantine, Delegate Superior of Sri Lanka graced the occasion as chief guest and the event was attended by many distinguished persons from the government, private, and religious sectors.
Winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates. During the same event, several persons who have contributed to the development of arts and culture in the northern province were also honoured with titles and certificates.
