Peru. Fides Agency (Oct. 31, 2009) echoes the popular Mission developed in Arequipa, in the Province of Castile. “Following the footstep of Claret you will certainly find difficulties, but they are sure steps in the following of Jesus.” These are the words with which Fr. Manuel Rodríguez, CMF, sent more than 30 missionaries prepared by the Institute of Cordimarian Filiation and the Association of Missionaries of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, to carry out a Mission among the peoples of Machahuay, Viraco and Tipay, of the Province of Castile, in Arequipa (in Southern Perú).
On October 27, the missionaries went with Fr. Manuel, director of the JN19 TV Channel. Isela Llerena was also part of the group. She is a Counsellor of the association and member of the Claretian Family who this year is celebrating one hundred years of the Claretian presence in Perú. The missionaries prepared themselves for one month with weekly conferences and seminaries, together with seminarians and consecrated persons. According to the organizers, the Celebrations of the word have taken a great part of this preparation with the intention of teaching the missionaries how to celebrate such liturgies or paraliturgies with the inhabitants of the area where they would carry out the mission. The study sessions dealt with various themes, such a Christology, Missiology, Mariology, Sacraments, the Bible, etc.
