Bata, Equatorial Guinea. In a week-long retreat aimed at replenishing their spiritual strength, the Claretian Missionaries of Padre Xifré Independent Delegation have concluded their annual retreat. The retreat took place from July 2 to 7, 2023, in two regions, Bata in Equatorial Guinea, and Essassa in Gabon, where the missionaries engaged in meditation and reflection under the guidance of Frs. Marcelo Beka, and Laurent Messi, CMFF.
Despite a few absences due to various reasons, the retreat was attended by a significant number of confreres from both regions, emphasizing the dedication of these missionaries to their spiritual growth and commitment to their calling.
During the retreat, the Claretian missionaries delved into the significance of their priestly roles, responding to the call of Jesus to retreat, pray, and rejuvenate after intense ministerial work. Recognizing the demands of their mission, the retreat aimed to better equip them for more effective engagement in the world, as bearers of the Gospel and saviors of souls.
Emphasizing the importance of community and fraternal life, the retreat highlighted the essential role they play in providing strength and renewal for the missionary apostolate. The missionaries acknowledged that their community serves as the foundation and reference point for their mission, with the absence of community life leading to the absence of religious life itself.
The meditations and reflections of the Preachers were grounded in the teachings of the Congregation, including the Autobiography of St. Anthony Mary Claret, the Constitutions of their Congregation, Misionari Sumus, In Prophetic Mission, the circular letter of the Superior General titled “Our Missionary Journey on the Way to Synodality,” the Acts of the latest Assembly of the Father Xifré Delegation, and, of course, the Holy Bible.
The spiritual exercises culminated in a deeply meaningful Eucharistic Celebration, where the missionaries gathered to express their gratitude and dedication to their mission.
