Vic, Spain. The bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Tarragona met on February 7, 2020, and gathered at the Claret House of Spirituality in Vic. They accepted the invitation to celebrate one of their usual meetings in the Motherhouse of our Congregation, motivated by the 150th anniversary of the death of our Father Founder, St. Anthony Mary Claret, celebrated this year 2020.
The bishops from the Tarraconensis Episcopal Conference (Archdiocese of Tarragona, Suffragan Dioceses of Girona, Lleida, Solsona, Tortosa, Urgell, and Vic; Archdiocese of Barcelona and Suffragan Dioceses of Terrassa and Sant Feliu) and the Provincial Government of Sanctus Paulus Province, both gathered this week in Vic, shared the prayer of praise and the celebration of the Eucharist in the crypt of the temple of Saint Anthony Mary Claret. The President of the Conference and Archbishop of Tarragona, Joan Planellas i Barnosell, presided over the Eucharist.
In his homily, Planellas recalled the life of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, with two highlights. On the one hand, he referred to Father Claret’s concern for the pastoral care and attention to people. He said that he has assimilated Pope Francis’ invitation to practice a Church “going forth” in his own way like many other saints of his time. And, on the other hand, he has valued the pastoral and preaching zeal of Father Claret, always attentive to the needs of the time.
