Lagos, Nigeria. It was on the 24th day of October and all roads led to the abode of the Claretians of West Nigeria in St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ikorodu, Lagos. The members of the Delegation were gathered to celebrate their 10th anniversary of their foundation. It was on this same date in 2007 that Delegation was carved out of the once revered Nigerian Province.
Over 35 priests were present at the Holy Mass with Right Rev. Msgr John Aniagwu, the Vicar of the Archdiocese and Episcopal Vicar of Ikeja Deanery being the Chief celebrant to represent the Archbishop, His Grace, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins. It was indeed all moments of joy for the members who came with their parishioners and recounted how it all started.
Fr. Luke Swem Beba in his homily gave a detailed account of how we started and the considerable progress the Delegation has made in formation, apostolate, economy, spirituality, youth ministry and vocation. Within the span of ten years, the Delegation has 10 communities with 3 in the making both within the country and South Africa.
One of the major highlights of the celebration was the unveiling of the CMF Table Water project which was done by the Major Superior, Very Rev. Fr. Daniel Mary Onyeayana.
The Lay Claretians and friends were not left out of the colourful celebration as their presence added glamour to the occasion. It is a day the Delegation will not forget in a hurry. We remain grateful to God’s love that urges us on always in the light of our Fr. Founder, St. Anthony Mary Claret.
