Shillong, India. The Province of Northeast India celebrates its First Provincial Chapter from 22nd to 28th April 2024 at the Moreau Institute of Integral Training (MIIT), Shillong with the theme ‘Radiating God’s Love’.
The inauguration of the First Provincial Chapter marks a significant milestone in the journey of the Northeast India Province. It symbolises not only a moment of formal gathering of an established entity, but also an experience of unity, collaboration and vision for the future. The inauguration of the First Provincial Chapter represents a new beginning for the Province and embodies its commitment to collective growth, collaboration and service to the community.
The opening ceremony was a blend of tradition, solemnity and celebration. Stanislaus Chinliankhup, Rector of Oriens Theological College, Fr. Richard Majaw, VG of the Archdiocese of Shillong, and Fr. Anthony Bhyju CMF, President of ASCLA West, shared their insights and aspirations for the future of the Province. Their words resonated deeply with an appreciation for the ministry of the Claretians and their cherished associations, which gave impetus for renewed missionary and pastoral endeavours.
In the midst of a gathering of distinguished guests, dignitaries and members of the Chapter, the atmosphere was one of excitement and anticipation. The presence of Fr Mathew Vattamattam, CMF, the Superior General of the Claretians, underlined the importance of this event at both the provincial and congregational levels. In his inaugural address, he invited the audience and the members of the Chapter to
fall in love with God; you will do greater things”, he also emphasised the synodal journey of working together in the garden of the Church. He also stressed the need to return to the original spirit of the Gospel.
Fr General’s remarks echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of missionary work and the need for unity among the members of our Congregation. His words served as a call to action, urging them to embrace their role as ambassadors of the Claretian Congregation and to spread its message far and wide.
The cultural programme that followed was a vibrant display of traditional Khasi dance by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Mawpat and the students of St. Claret Hr. Secondary School, Nongmensong, showcased the rich diversity and heritage of Northeast India. Through music and dance, they celebrated not only the inauguration but also the unique identity and spirit of the Province.
