Chicago, USA. After 60 plus years of doing ministry, in a mutual decision with the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Claretian Missionaries returned the ministry of Holy Cross (4541 South Wood Street) and Immaculate Heart of Mary (4521 South Ashland Avenue) parishes to the archdiocese on September 1, 2018.
During the many years of service, the Claretians were able to provide outreach and successful programs for the youth in one of Chicago’s most troubled neighborhoods, “Back-of-the-Yards.”
A Farewell Mass for the Claretians was held on the 25th of August at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, with many parishioners in attendance to give thanks to the Claretians for their many years of dedication and service to both parishes and to the neighborhood.
In a letter to Fr. Rosendo, Cardinal Cupich states:
“As your community concludes its ministry at Holy Cross–Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, I wish to extend my heartfelt wishes and appreciation for your generous service in the Archdiocese of Chicago… I am grateful for the good foundation laid in this community by the Claretians. It will make it possible for those who follow to continue to build upon this foundation.”
