Ngoya, Cameroon. Over 60 Claretian Missionaries from across Africa gathered in Ngoya to participate in the annual ACLA-General Government meeting, taking place from December 4 to 14, 2024. This event brings together major superiors and members of the governing bodies of all African major organisms to reflect on Claretian mission and identity.
A Vibrant Welcoming Ceremony
The opening ceremony began with a lively cultural performance, featuring a traditional dance from the Fang-Beti region as a gesture of Cameroonian hospitality, warmly expressed through the words “Mbembe Nsoan” (“Welcome”). The central moment was marked by the solemn procession of the Word of God, led by the Reverend Father Martin Hervé Ndi Nkoumou, CMF, Director of Biblical Pastoral Ministry.
Fr. Jude Langeh, CMF, Major Superior of the Independent Delegation of Cameroon, delivered a welcoming speech, followed by an address from the Superior General of the Congregation, Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, CMF. His powerful call for communion and spiritual discernment inspired the assembly.
A Reflection on Identity and Mission
Over the next ten days, participants will reflect on the theme: “Fall in love with Christ and your neighbor, and you will do even greater things.” In his address, the Superior General urged the missionaries to move beyond a culture of complaints and financial dependency, embracing shared responsibility and missionary autonomy rooted in the Gospel. Drawing on the Congregation’s and Church’s jubilees, he emphasized the importance of forming visionary, transparent leaders capable of collaboration. According to him, this moment represents a kairos for the continent, entrusted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to bear fruits of communion and transformation in Africa. The ACLA 2024 meeting is expected to be a pivotal moment for the missionary renewal of Claretians in Africa, addressing the challenges and opportunities of this dynamic continent.
