Assumtion of Office of Fr. José María Hernández Martínez, CMF as Parish Priest of Sacro Cuore di Maria ai Parioli Parish

Rome, Italy. On Sunday, September 16, 2018, during the assumption of office of the new Parish Priest of the Parish of Sacro Cuore di Maria ai Parioli, Fr. José María Hernández Martínez, CMF, native of Las Torres de Cotillas in Murcia, Spain, a large picture frame of Blessed Oscar Romero was enthroned at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Parioli, Rome.

The Salvadoran community in Rome together with the Ambassador of El Salvador to the Holy See, Mr. Manuel López Barrera, donated to the Basilica the picture of the martyred bishop who will be canonized on October 14, 2018 at the Vatican.

His Most Reverend Excellency, Guerino Di Tora, Auxiliary Bishop of Rome and Bishop of the Northern Sector of the Vicariate of Rome, presided the Holy Eucharist that counted with the presence of numerous faithful who received their new pastor in the company of the community of missionaries of the General Curia.

As a Congregation, the contact with Romero was born in the days when he attended the minor seminary of San Miguel de El Salvador, which at that time was in charge of the missionaries of the Heart of Mary. But the strength of the presence of a painting in the parish Pariolina lies in the fact that here he celebrated his first Mass on Easter 1942, after being ordained priest by Pius XII. And when he was already bishop, he also came to concelebrate in an event at the Basilica (A more detailed article on this event and on the relations between the Claretians and Blessed Romero will be published on the CESC website soon).

To have in our midst, near the General Curia, this presence, is a way of entering into this time of grace for the generous life of this man and prophet that the People already revere like Saint Romero of America.
