Hong Kong, China. On 25 November 2024, the XI General Assembly of the East Asia Delegation began in Hong Kong under the presidency of Fr. Rosendo Urrabazo, CMF. Originally designated to preside over the Assembly, Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF could not attend in person due to visa complications related to China’s special circumstances. However, Fr. Henry set the tone for the Assembly with a virtual recollection talk on discernment and continues to accompany the proceedings online.
The Assembly opened with a solemn ceremony featuring the enthronement of the Bible, symbolizing unity and faith. This was accompanied by symbolic offerings representing the five areas of the Delegation: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, and Taiwan.
A significant highlight came on 27 November 2024 with the announcement of the new leadership team for the East Asia Delegation. The newly appointed Superior is Fr. Jijo Kandamkulathil, CMF, with Fr. Julio Torres Hernández, CMF, serving as Econome. Additionally, Fr. Ken Masuda, CMF, and Fr. Bobin Punnackapadavil, CMF, have been appointed as Consultants.
Over the past four months, the Delegation has actively prepared for this important gathering through conversations at various levels, utilizing the Appreciative Inquiry methodology. This approach encouraged participants to “discover, dream, design, and destine” their collective path forward.
The Assembly will continue until 29 November 2024, fostering collaboration and reflection among members, with the goal of strengthening the mission and presence of the Delegation in East Asia.
