Bengaluru, India. ICL: Institute of Consecrated Life – Sanyasa being a unique and only institute in India offering exclusively studies and research on the theology of Consecrated Life responded to the call of the Church to protect the minors thanks to the fraternal suggestions and guidance of Rev. Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, the Superior General.
Our Institute cannot and should not remain silent spectator to this rampant menace. Thus, in collaboration with CPP (Center for Child Protection), Gregorian University, Rome, we are organizing six months online diploma with two one-week duration contact classes in creating awareness, educating clergy and consecrated persons and proposing concrete constructive ways in gradually wiping out this menace and shame from the face of this earth.
The first contact class of one week began on July 22, 2019 with the prayer dance followed by welcome address by Fr. Arul Jesu Robin, CMF, the Director of ICL. The guest of honor, Rev. Fr. Xavier Manavath, CMF, the founding director of ICL and the Episcopal Vicar for Religious in the Archdiocese of Bangalore in his inaugural address highlighted the seriousness of the crime of child abuse by clergy and consecrated persons and exhorted them to love all unconditionally as Jesus loved. The resource persons for the entire program are Fr. James Kannanthanam, CMF and Fr. Augustine Mundiath, CMF; both completed post-doctoral program on the Protection of the Minors from CCP (Center for Child Protection), Gregorian University, Rome. The first week program is being animated mainly by Fr. James Kannanthanam, CMF.
There are all together eighty-four participants: forty-seven religious sisters, nine diocesan priests, fourteen religious priests, eleven religious brothers and three lay persons. They represent wide variety of dioceses, religious congregation and states of India. It is so wonderful to have a good mixture of persons showing great interest and commitment in creating a better society for the children to grow as children of God.
