São Tomé and Príncipe. The presence of the Claretian Missionaries in São Tomé and Príncipe is approaching the hundred years and it is one of the missionary vanguards not only of the Claretian Province of Portugal, but also of the Congregation. One and a half year ago, Pope Benedict XVI entrusted the diocese to a Claretian of Portugal, Mons. Manuel António Mendes dos Santos.
Last April 9, an important agreement was signed between the diocese of São Tomé-Príncipe and the Claretian Province of Portugal that affects the spiritual, pastoral and economical fields.
Following these agreements, the Claretian Missionaries will always be ready to participate in activities of spiritual renewal and on-going formation programmed in the Diocese.
The Claretian Missionaries commit themselves to serve six parishes, the Rádio Jubilar station and the Santa Casa de la Misericordia among others.
They will jointly take care of the youth, family, vocational ministry and the formation of agents of evangelization.
The Diocese and the Congregation will be set on a missionary, acculturated, prophetic, and liberating evangelization, in the perspective of the poor, promoter of agents of evangelization, shared with other members of the People of God, especially with the laity.
