Kupang, Indonesia. The Independent Delegation of Indonesia-Timor Leste held the 15th Consecrated Life Week from January 30 to February 1, 2025, under the theme “Living the Consecration, Fidelity, and Witness in a VUCA World.” VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity, highlighting challenges faced by consecrated persons today.
Speakers included Fr. Valens Agino, CMF; Fr. Kristian Paskalis Cangkung, CMF; Fr. Sabu George Palackathadathil, CMF; Fr. Yoseph Ferdinandus Melo, CMF; Fr. Viktor Doddy Sau Sasi, CMF; and Sr. Rosaria Nur Hardiningsih, CB. The event was moderated by Fr. Reneldus Maryono Paing, CMF.
On the first day, Fr. Valens Agino, CMF, discussed the impact of the VUCA world on consecrated life and proposed countermeasures based on vision, understanding, courage, and adaptability. He emphasized the importance of spiritual discernment and fidelity to vocation. Fr. Kristian Paskalis Cangkung, CMF, then explored the historical journey of consecrated life through the lens of orientation, disorientation, and re-orientation, urging participants to see crises as moments of grace.
The second day featured Fr. Sabu George Palackathadathil, CMF, who reflected on the theological aspects of consecration, stressing prophetic witness and the need for perseverance amidst challenges. Fr. Yoseph Ferdinandus Melo, CMF, drew from Vatican documents to highlight faithfulness and joyful perseverance, warning against factors that weaken vocation.
On the third day, Fr. Viktor Doddy Sau Sasi, CMF, addressed consecrated life from a legal perspective, focusing on fidelity and the challenges of secularization. Sr. Rosaria Nur Hardiningsih, CB, concluded with the inspiring testimony of Elisabeth Gruyters, a model of perseverance in consecrated life.
The event gathered hundreds of consecrated men and women from various congregations across Indonesia, from aspirants to perpetually professed members, fostering renewal and commitment in consecrated life.
