Claretian Composes a Hymn to the Virgin Sung at the Mass with the Pope

Mar 28, 2012 | Antillas, Claretians Today

Santiago de Cuba. Claretian Jesús Bermejo, CMF, member of the CESC team at our motherhouse in Vic (Spain), is the author of the words of the hymn to the ‘Virgin of Charity of Cobre’ which was sung during the pilgrimage to the blessed image for all Cuba.

The song was also the welcoming theme for the image of the Virgin during its arrival at the Antonio Maceo Plaza of the City of Santiago for the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Pope Benedict XVI (photo: The Pope offers the ‘golden rose’ to the Virgin)

The text of the song was composed during Fr. Bermejo’s two-year stay on the Island while he was compiling all kinds of documents related to the presence and mission of Saint Anthony Mary Claret as Archbishop of Cuba. The music, with a Caribbean rhythm, is the work of Father Jorge Catasús
