Brazil. On 14th. January,2008, today at 11.30hrs.,the meeting of the General Government with the Major Superiors of the Congregation has begun with the Eucaristic celebration in Jundai which is 40 km. away from SanPaulo.
Besides the General Government the Superiors of 20 Provinces and 16 Major Superiors of the independent Delegations of the Congregation are present. Fr. Oswair Chiozini, the appointed Superior of the new Province of Brazil also participates. On January 23d., the Province of Meridional Brazil and the Delegation of Central Brazil will be constituted into one Province. Frs. Francisco San Martín (Argentina), Anistus Onuhoa (Nigeria-HAití) and Jesudoss (Chennai-CESC Vic) are collaborating as translators in this meeting.
The objective of this meeting is the preparation of the General Chapter. It aspires to offer the necessary elements to the General Government to determine the theme, the objectives of the coming Chapter and its methodology for the participation of the Congregation in its preparation. The Chapter will be celebrated in August 2009. It is also planned to deal with some other issues of interest.
After pointing out that it is a joy to celebrate together the Mystery of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus who gives light to this, Fr. General in his homily commented on the Readings of the day insisting on some verses :”Isn`t my love enough for you ?”, “the Kingdom of God is here”, and “I will make fishers of men”, to indicate the Lord gathers us to Him and makes us to commit ourselves in His same mission which may look apparently that does not produce fruits, but it does.
In the afternoon session, Fr. Sergio Bradanini, an Italian missionary of the PIME, with his presence of 33 years in Brazil, gave us a Conference on the Latin American Episcopal Conference in Aparecida. He explained the process of preparation of this Conference which has been an occasion of Grace, a time of ecclesial corresponsability in spite of all the difficulties and the manipulation of the text. Using the classic methodology, to see-to judge and to act the final text presents the situation of the Continent, the challenges and plans for the Church. In spite of the weaknesses, the balanced approach on the Conference, the resource person insisted in: “not going back is going ahead”.
Fr. Yvan Lafontaine has prepared the evening prayer. During the supper we celebrated Fr. Manuel Tamargo`s birthday. We finished the day`s program with the video show on Fr. Claret in the English version prepared in view of his bi-centenary birth celebration.
