Bandung, Indonesia. The ASCLA Conference Biblical Assembly commenced in Bandung, Indonesia, on September 17, 2023 and will continue until the 23rd. The Assembly, under the theme “Rooted in Christ and Audacious in Spreading the Word of God in Asia“, has brought together Major Organisms from all over Asia for a week of sharing and spiritual enrichment.

The Assembly has two main objectives: first, to empower the various Major Organisms in Asia to infuse their pastoral ministries with the transforming power of the Word of God; and second, to creatively manifest this charism in their communities and to amplify the Biblical Ministry in their pastoral activities.

The opening session of the Assembly began with a solemn procession of the Bible, symbolizing the profound significance of the Word of God, followed by the enthronement of the Bible. Fr. Alex Gobrin, CMF, representing Fr. Rhoel Gallardo Province, read the Gospel and Fr. Valens Agino, CMF, the Major Superior of Indonesia-Timor Leste Independent Delegation, led the participants in a moment of reflection and prayer. On behalf of the Delegation, he extended a warm welcome to all the participants, marking the beginning of this important meeting. Participants also introduced themselves, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration.

Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, the General Prefect of the Bible and Communication, who unfortunately could not be physically present due to the sudden loss of his father, addressed the gathering virtually from Rome. In his address, he emphasized the importance of daring to dream as a team and of aligning our aspirations with the timeline and vision outlined at the General Chapter. The message of Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, CMF, the Superior General, was delivered by Fr. Alberto Rossa, CMF, who emphasized the need for continuous self-improvement, the strength of collaboration and the importance of taking calculated risks in their common mission.

Fr. Henry continued his presentation by highlighting the Dream of the Congregation and connecting it with the theme of the gathering: “Rooted in Christ and Audacious in Spreading the Word of God in Asia” from the perspective of the General Chapter. Representatives from various Major Organisms then shared their unique biblical apostolate initiatives in their respective places, contributing a rich tapestry of approaches and experiences to the Assembly’s discussions on the spread of the Word of God.
