Weißenhorn, Germany. In a momentous gathering, 32 Claretian Missionaries of the Province of Deutschland came together for their annual Retreat and Provincial Assembly at the Claretinerkolleg Weißenhorn from May 30th to June 2nd, 2023. The Retreat, led by Fr. Markus Reck from the Pallotines, focused on reflection and spiritual enrichment.
During the three-day Retreat, the missionaries delved into profound themes, including the Conversion of Paul (Acts 9:1-9), the Call to be an Apostle (Gal. 1:13-17), and the Longing for Fellowship with Christ (Phil. 3:4-14). With inputs from the Retreat Animator, creative community prayers, and Holy Mass, participants were provided ample time for personal prayer and reflection, allowing them to deepen their calling as zealous missionaries in the spirit of Father Founder, St. Anthony Mary Claret, who himself regarded St. Paul as a model Missionary.
A notable presence at the Retreat was Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, the Vicar General & Prefect of Bible and Communication, who had conducted the canonical visitation of the Province starting from May 1st, 2023. His participation further enriched the Retreat experience.
On June 2nd, the final day of the gathering, the missionaries engaged in discussions on matters concerning the Province during the plenary. Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, presented a comprehensive report on the Canonical Visit, providing valuable insights and recommendations. Additionally, Fr. Alfons Schmid, CMF, the Provincial Vicar, enlightened the members about the German Synodal Process and its impact on the Church.
Addressing the assembly, Fr. Callistus Joseph, CMF, the Provincial Superior, encouraged all members to acquaint themselves with the concluding papers of the Synodal Process, available in both English and German languages. This endeavor aimed to foster consensus among the missionaries on controversial issues, fostering unity and understanding.
To culminate these significant events, a heartfelt thanksgiving Mass was celebrated by the Province’s four newly ordained Priests: Fr. Martins Ugbede Omale, Fr. Xavier Melvettom, Fr. Jacob Edathinattu, and Fr. Evans Iregi Njiraini, CMFF. The celebration marked the beginning of their priestly ministry and the commitment to serve as dedicated ambassadors of the Gospel.
In the afternoon, as the Assembly concluded, Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, engaged in a meeting with the Provincial Council, discussing further matters of importance. Meanwhile, the other Missionaries returned to their respective communities, spiritually strengthened and nourished, ready to continue radiating the Joy of the Gospel in their ongoing mission.
