Las Palmas, Spain. A movable exposition called “Historia de un regalo de Dios para Canarias” by Miguel Ángel Sosa was organized to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the arrival and presence of St. Anthony Mary Claret in the Canary Islands. The exposition was inaugurated on January 16, 2024, at the Casa de la Iglesia in Las Palmas City. The book “Claret: Vida y misión en Canarias” by Emilio Vicente Mateu was also presented along with the inauguration.
The event was attended by Msgr. Cristóbal Déniz Hernández, Auxiliary Bishop of the Canary Islands, and Fr. Carlos Alberto Candeias do Nascimento, CMF, Provincial Superior of the Claretian Missionaries of Fátima Province. Fr. Santi Cerrato, CMF, Local Superior and Heart of Mary Parish Priest, and Fr. Juanjo García, CMF, Claret School of Las Palmas Director, were also present. After the presentations, Mr. Germán López entertained the attendees with an arrorró (Canarian lullaby) played on his timple (a traditional five-string plucked string instrument of the Canary Islands). Msgr. Cristóbal closed the event by inviting the participants to pray to Father Claret and sing his hymn, written by Emilio Vicente Mateu.
