Wroclaw, Poland. On May 10, 2020, in the Claretian Seminary Chapel in Wroclaw, Student Mateusz Cyganik, CMF received the Order of Deacons in the hands of Claretian Bishop, Msgr. Jacek Kicinski, CMF.
Claretians from the community and some members of his family participated in the celebration. It was a beautiful but modest ceremony because of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the sight of the almost empty chapel was not saddening because many people were spiritually united with Mateusz at that time. Thanks to online transmission, more than 150 people prayed together during the moving moments of the Litany to All Saints or during the prayer of diaconal consecration.
“To be a deacon is to serve and to love, to be responsible and to care, which is so necessary today,” Msgr. Kicinski said in his sermon, referring to the need for vigilance towards the poor and needy.
The Provincial Superior, Br. Piotr Bęza, CMF, expressed his best wishes and gratitude for the attitude of modesty and kindness of the ordained. He also reminded everyone that the deacon is the one who brings peace by saying in the liturgy “give the fraternal sign of peace” and “you can go in peace.”
