Tura, India. Diocese of Tura entrusted to the care of the Claretian Missionaries the newly erected Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Possenggagre, Tura on the 16th of November 2019. During the inaugural Mass celebrated by Most Reverend Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura, Fr. George Theruvel, CMF was installed as its first Parish Priest. On behalf of the Claretians, Major Superior of Northeast India, Fr. Pius Thuruthiyil, CMF signed the agreement with the Diocese of Tura.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tura (Turanus) is a diocese located in the city of Tura in the Ecclesiastical province of Shillong in India. On March 1, 1973 it was established as Diocese from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Shillong–Gauhati. Its cathedral, the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians is located in Tura, Meghalaya. And with this newly erected parish entrusted to the care of the Claretians, the Diocese of Tura has 44 parishes in all.
Tura is a hilly town and a municipality in West Garo Hills district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. One of the largest towns in Meghalaya, Tura is a valley located at the foothills of the Tura Hills and right below the Tura Peak.
