Puerto Rico. The Delegation of Antillas has started the initial stage of the “Voluntariado” project with formation workshops for the laypersons who have decided to offer one year of their lives as missionaries from the headquarters of Jimaní, Dominican Republic, a frontier zone with Haiti.
In the month of June these workshops were held with the participation of 4 persons: three
young adult persons, all of them professionals, and one mother-grandmother. Three more young adults from Honduras have also confirmed their participation with the group of Puerto Rico. During this year three more Lay Claretians from Spain will also be added for one month of service.
The Claretian Community of Jimaní, through Fr. Demuel Tavarez and Bro. Ysaac Espinal, have prepared the house where they volunteers will live and from where they will be able to project their missionary service on behalf of thousands of victims of the Haitian earthquake.
PROMICLA (Claretian Missionary Procure of Antillas) has decided to support economically the project with the generous donations received for this end. The first group of volunteers will depart for Jimaní , Dom. Rep. on August 20.
