Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. Since 1970, the Spanish Episcopal Confederation (CEE) agreed that an extraordinary collection be taken in all parishes in the fight against hunger, coinciding with the second Sunday in February.
With the same purpose, they also agreed that the Friday before the Sunday, a day of voluntary fasting would be held.
On Friday the 10th of February, the NGO “Manos Unidas” in the Diocese, celebrated this fast and organized the celebration of the Eucharist in the parish of Our Lady of the Pillar in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, entrusted to the Claretians.
The Mass was presided over by the parish priest, Juan Carlos Monroy, CMF, Superior of the Community of El Pilar in the place of Bishop Bernardo Alvarez Afonso who was absent due to illness.
