México, D.F. This past November 28th, the “National Day of the Deaf” was celebrated in México. For this occasion, from November 26-29th, the “Centro Claret” which is run by the Claretian Missionaries, organized various reflective, recreational, illuminative, and festive activities.
The purpose of these activities was to draw attention to the education of the deaf, favoring respect to their dignity and rights, which is how “Claret Center” operates, always with an attitude of permanent renewal.
The Center has an educational structure which covers the basic cycles and means of schooling, as well as various workshops on arts and crafts, which is complimented with the ministry to the deaf organized from San Hipólito Church. Participating in the activities of the week, in addition to the deaf of the Institute, were their families, friends, and many other interested people.
The speakers shared relevant and significant issues that will be an incentive for school and family educational practice, as well as the struggle for their rights, their dignity and their integration into the wider society. The theater company “Sign and Word” highlighted this message through a series of skits.
