Rome. Pope Benedict XVI will renounce his pontificate on February 28th “for reasons of strength and advancing age”. It is the first renunciation of a Pope in six centuries. The announcement was made personally during a consistory in the morning of February 11th.
Benedict XVI is 85 years of age and eight as the Sucessor of Peter, since he was elected at the conclave of April 2005.
