Kattuwa, Sri Lanka. The Independent Delegation of St Joseph Vaz celebrated its Annual Assembly from 8th to 12th April 2024 at St Claret Seminary, Kattuwa, Sri Lanka.
The opening day began in a reverent atmosphere with the inaugural Eucharistic Celebration presided by Fr. Joseph Jeyaseelan, CMF, the Major Superior. On the following day, three resource persons enlightened the participants with their inputs and reflections on the current socio-political trends (Mrs. Bhavani Fonseka, Center for Policy Alternatives – Colombo), the current ecclesial trends (Fr. Quintus Fernando, Rector of the National Seminary) and the current Congregational trends (Fr. Efren Limpo, CMF, General Secretary).
The Assembly then moved on to the reports. These reports focused on the general reality of the Delegation in general and by prefecture. An important part of the reports was a mid-term evaluation of the action plan for the triennium 2022-2025, based on the exhortation of the 2022 Assembly, Brothers in Community, Vanguards in Mission.
During the last two days, several topics concerning the life and mission of the Delegation were discussed in a synodal way. The Assembly also spent considerable time updating, discussing and sharing reflections on the new foundation in South Sudan as part of the mission of the St Joseph Vaz Independent Delegation.
The Assembly was attended by all the professed members, including the professed members of other major Organs in formation in Sri Lanka. The Assembly ended in the afternoon of 12 April with the concluding reflection of the Major Superior entitled “Towards a hopeful future with rooted audacity & bold rootedness”.
