4th General Assembly of St. Charles Lwanga Independent Delegation

Nairobi, Kenya. The St. Charles Lwanga Independent Delegation is currently holding its 4th General Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya. The Assembly, with the theme “A Community Rooted in Christ and Audacious in Mission,” began on November 20th and will continue until November 25th at the Retreat Centre of the Little Daughters of St. Joseph in Karen, Nairobi.

During the Assembly, presided over by Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, Vicar General, and General Prefect of Bible and Communication, 53 perpetually professed members gathered to discuss important matters. The preparations for this Assembly began with an online meeting on June 28, 2023, where Fr. Henry and the Delegation Council members emphasized the need for active involvement from every member in the preparation process.

On July 16, 2023, which coincided with the 174th Foundation Day of the Congregation, Fr. Joy Mampillikunnel, CMF, Major Superior of St. Charles Lwanga Independent Delegation, officially declared the process of the Delegation Assembly open. An online meeting on August 9th involving Local Superiors, vicars of communities, and the Delegation Council took place. During the meeting, Fr. Henry emphasized the importance of a serious preparation phase.

The subsequent phases involved conducting government surveys, gathering community reports, and evaluating economic data with specialized teams.

Members arrived on November 16th after the November 15th approval of reports. The council’s final meeting with Fr. Henry on November 18th discussed logistics and Assembly modalities and emphasized the need for responsible teams.

Members arrived at the Retreat Centre on November 19th to kick off the Assembly with a mini recollection on the discernment of God’s will, animated by Fr. Henry. A Holy Mass followed this, presided over by Fr. Henry, which set a sacred tone for the Assembly and conveyed a message from the Superior General. Fr. Joy welcomed the members, and the President of the Assembly presented the modalities and details, officially declaring the Assembly open.
