Roma. The 76th Biannual Assembly of the Union of Superior Generals (USG) held in Rome, finished on November 26th with an Audience with Pope Benedict XVI.
The theme of the Assembly was the “Consecrated Life in Europe: commitment to the gospel message”, chosen in order to create markers for the revitalization of the Consecrated Life on this continent.
On the 25th Fr Josep Abella CMF, Superior General of the Claretian Missionaries, led the Eucharistic service and another Claretian, Fr. Maxim Muñoz, Provincial of Catalonia, joined other speakers in a round-table discussion with the title “Signs of hope and experiences of renewal which are evident today in the consecrated life”.
Fr Maxim discussed some of the signs of the quality of human and evangelical life which lead us to discover the spirit of renewal in the consecrated life. Amongst them he mentioned the presence and predicament of the most needy; the predicament of the people who suffer from poverty, violence and injustice; fraternal care for elderly members of the religious community; diversity and intercultural links; the restructuring of the Organisms with a plan for the future; shared mission with the laity; inter-congregational links; spaces in the Church for the expression of freedom, creativity and participation and the awareness of the need for spiritual revitalization to be signs of an alternative consecrated life.
